Job Title: FOIA Specialist
Location: Arlington, VA (On-site)
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance
Work authorization: US Citizen
Key Responsibilities
• Receive, review, and analyze FOIA requests to determine scope and jurisdiction.
• Coordinate with other federal agencies for processing or referral of requests.
• Review and redact responsive records using FOIA Xpress or equivalent software.
• Prepare and recommend responses for review and approval by HQ DAF FOIA Analysts, applying appropriate FOIA exemptions and determining applicable fees, reductions, or waivers.
• Manage FOIA caseload and track progress toward backlog reduction goals, ensuring accurate updates to eFOIA logs, case files, and suspense tracking systems.
• Assist with FOIA litigation support and provide thorough documentation for legal review.
• Serve as a point of contact for FOIA requesters and internal stakeholders, providing professional, clear, and timely written and verbal communications.
• Draft correspondence, including release letters, special responses, and other official documents in accordance with established guidelines.
• Prepare and submit monthly Caseload & Backlog Reports, as well as ad hoc reports when requested.
• Ensure compliance with FOIA laws, the Privacy Act, and applicable DoD and Air Force regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive or classified information in accordance with security protocols.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 3 years in FOIA-related roles or similar legal/records management positions.
• In-depth knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act, related regulations, exemptions, and procedures.
• Familiarity with the Privacy Act, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) requirements, and records management standards.
• Proficiency in FOIA tracking systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in document review and data entry.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple requests and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

• Must be able to work core hours (Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:00 PM).
• Adherence to security, OPSEC, and data protection protocols.
• Compliance with all Department of Defense and Air Force training requirements.
